Remedy, Routine, and Ritual: Healthcare of the Everyday – Heritage Open Days Exhibition

A free exhibition open to everyone! Based at Exeter Community Centre, we will be open 11am – 4pm on the 19th and 20th September.

To celebrate the Heritage Open Days theme of ‘Everyday Histories’ we’re looking at all the routines, rituals and performances involved in medicine and healthcare over years. Everything from rituals in our self-care and personal care to routines and rituals completed by medical professionals, explore their history and their current use.

We will have a display of some of our collection as part of this exhibition. Our collection over 10,000 objects from medical and healthcare history – from Roman scalpels to nursing uniforms, x-ray machines to apothecary chests. In this exhibition, we will show some personal effects used for self-care, recipes and apothecary objects, a display of surgical items, and intriguing blood circulators and electro-magnetic machines!

This exhibtition has been co-created and curated by our University of Exeter interns, Charlie Clark and Sorrel Newman.
